Hiromu Takahara - “Abordage” Distressed Studded Leather Jeans
Abordage is a Japanese menswear label created by Hiromu Takahara, the same designer behind the brand Roen, which gained prominence in the early 2000s. Abordage was developed as a focused offshoot, emerging in the mid-2000s in Japan, with an emphasis on refined utility and naval-inspired silhouettes. The name “Abordage” refers to a boarding or attack at sea—fitting for a line that draws influence from maritime uniform, pirate-inflected styling, and disciplined minimalism. Where Roen embraced a more rock-inspired, embellished aesthetic, Abordage stripped things back. It focused on wearable construction—raw-edged tailoring, carefully selected fabrics like distressed cotton and treated leathers, and minimal, often oxidized hardware. The intent wasn’t to shock or decorate, but to build garments that communicated a sense of calm defiance, movement, and internal strength. Takahara’s approach with Abordage was to offer a line that remained rooted in Japanese craftsmanship, while shifting the mood toward practicality, edge, and atmosphere.
